Aga Kareba? Bugis for " How are you?"
A luxury landmark set in the heart of the historic precinct, InterContinental Singapore is deeply rooted in the heritage of the arts and cultural districts of Bugis and Bras Basah. Drawing on the city's rich heritage and multifaceted culture inspired by the surrounding locale, the 403- guestroom hotel exudes a residential charm that harmoniously marries luxury and elegance with hints of the locality.
CHARMS OF STRAITS CHINESE
Dating back to the 17th century, Chinese traders headed towards the Malay Peninsula in search of opportunities abroad. Over time, the marriage unions between the Chinese men and local Malay woman brought about a hybrid of language, food, fashion architecture and lifestyle, hence the beginning of the Peranakan Culture.
Since its opening in 1995, the hotel has become a landmark in the heart of historic Bugis, with its distinctive architecture and décor modelled after Peranakan homes and traditions.
